Inquiry into Malta’s prison launched after yet another suicide attempt

 

The inquiry will scrutinise the procedures of the Corradino Correctional Facility, particularly with regards to the assessment of the mental and physical health of both new and longstanding inmates. It will also look at the treatment of prisoners with addiction, and prisoners who have had periods at Mount Carmel Hospital.

Solar panels will be installed on top of route buses to reduce emissions

 

Furthermore, 40 million euros in EU funds will be used to electrify the bus fleet. Transport Minister Ian Borg made the announcement when he inaugurated a pilot project at Zarb Coaches which will also see their private buses powered through solar panels. What do you think of the new initiative?

“Code Red” 1.5°C temperature limit will be reached one decade earlier

 

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change concluded that the 1.5°C temperature limit of the Paris Agreement would likely be breached around 2030 – a decade earlier than it itself projected just three years ago. The report was unveiled as heart-stopping images of fires and floods dominate news cycles worldwide.

Acres of land in Malta have burned down during recent heatwaves

 

Mature trees in Wied Qirda and Girgenti Valley have recently been burned due to the scorching sun. Zebbug local councillor Steve Zammit Lupi shared images of the devastation of the recent fires in the area, some of which are happening on the island at the moment.

Malta is set to get its 1st ever carbon neutral garden at Rinella in Kalkara

 

Kalkara’s Rinella Garden will be home to Malta’s first carbon-neutral park, with self-sufficient irrigation systems and an emissions-free experience. Sustainable Development Minister Miriam Dalli and Finance Minister Clyde Caruana unveiled the project during a press conference on Tuesday.
