Prisoner dies in hospital eight days after suicide attempt

 

Colin Galea died at Mater Dei on Tuesday, his heartbroken brother confirmed in a Facebook post. The 30-year-old had been in intensive care since he was found unconscious in his cell at Corradino Correctional Facility just after 5pm on 8 August.

Attorney General files bill of indictment against Yorgen Fenech in Caruana Galizia murder case

 

Deputy Attorney General Philip Galea Farrugia revealed that the Bill of Indictment had been filed during a sitting due to hear submissions on Fenech’s latest request for bail. Prosecutors are requesting a life sentence.

Malta police seize 136 kilos of drugs worth 2.5 million euros in major Burmarrad raid

 

Four people have been arrested in connection with the find. Beyond a large amount of cannabis found inside a van stuffed with olive tins, a small amount of cocaine, ecstasy and amphetamines were also found, as well as an undisclosed amount of money and a gun.

Malta’s rate of new cases per 100,000 stands at 182.87 and the death rate per 100,000 is 15.55. Despite having a low case rate, in comparison to other EU countries, our death rate ranks at sixth place.
