Apple is one of the leading companies in the tech world, and they are currently working on numerous upcoming products as expected, such as the new iPhone SE, the new iPad Air, and also a new and more affordable external monitor.

However, one of the more interesting rumours to emerge in recent weeks is that Apple is also working on their largest-ever MacBook.

Interestingly, reports are also claiming that this MacBook is set to have a foldable display, making it a sort of merger of a laptop and tablet computer.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is currently working on developing a device that has a foldable 20-in display, and while it is still uncertain on how the product would work, there are multiple possibilities.

The product could either be a 20-inch iPad that attaches to a physical keyboard, or else one that folds in half, with its bottom part of the display becoming a touchscreen keyboard.

As a result, this device could become something close to a hybrid of their MacBook and iPad, and by doing this they would be going into a completely new product market.

This makes it even more interesting, considering Apple has always felt the need to have an individual lane for each of their devices.

It is also one of the reasons as to why a MacBook with a touchscreen or an iPhone with an Apple Pencil have never been made.

Gurman noted that he was told that “[...] Apple has indeed been exploring a dual-screen, foldable MacBook/iPad hybrid that would take the second approach.”

“It would trade in the physical keyboard and trackpad for a fully touch-screen base”, Gurman claimed, likening it to the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold, which became the world’s first foldable computer when it launched in 2020.

As expected, such a device is not set to be available in the coming years, with Gurman suggesting that late 2025 could be the earliest that Apple would announce it, with 2026 or 2027 being much more likely.
