5 Tips to Help You Stay Fit and Healthy as a Student

We all know that the life of a student is pretty hectic and stressful (and sometimes chill).

In the midst of it all you have to maintain 100% energy and focus whilst absorbing a lot of new information. Therefore, keeping fit and healthy is crucial!

Staying active and eating clean will contribute to lower your stress levels - don’t we all need that?

Start following these tips so that you can live a healthier lifestyle as a student!

1

Stay hydrated - 1 glass per day is not acceptable!

It is now common knowledge that everyone should be drinking around two litres of water every day. While this might seem daunting at first, if you carry a water bottle around to lectures with you, or whilst you are studying, then you will definitely get through two litres in 24 hours.

Apart from this, there are multiple vending machines across the Island which sell bottled water, so don’t worry you will never run out of water!

2

Walk it like you talk it

Walking is one of the most underrated forms of exercises out there but yet the most basic one.

If you can, make sure to try and walk to every area which is relatively close by (up to 20 minutes of walking). This will not only help you avoid spending money on fuel or taxis, but it will also be beneficial both to the environment and your health.

Additionally, try taking the stairs if a class is only a floor or two away, as this will help keep you fit without having to push yourself to your limits.

Get your game on - Join a sports team or gym

Regular exercise is essential, and there are no better ways to guarantee that you regularly get your workouts than by joining a sports team or a gym - this will push you to do more.

If you are interested in a specific sport, make sure to try and find the time to practice it, whether by joining a team or else by practicing it on your own at a gym or fitness centre. If you don’t know what sports you like most, try out different ones until you find what works best for you.

There are several gyms in different localities in Malta and Gozo... Many are open on a 24/7 basis. Some even offer student discounts... so make sure to get yourself signed up!

4

Do not eat excessively - eat the right portions and the right kind of food

Life as a student often involves regular snacking whilst studying as well as opting for cheap food that is either pre-made or unhealthy.

However, maintaining a well-balanced and healthy diet is very important, especially when combining it with regular exercise.

While studying, make sure to swap out unhealthy snacks for healthier alternatives, like mixed nuts, raisins, granola or fruit in order to make sure that you are getting your nutrients in.

Additionally, instead of opting for food that is high in fat, make sure to look up some recipes and prepare some food at home, and that way you can always save some money.

Sleeeeeep

We know it’s tough, but it’s so important not to let your phone distract you from your beauty sleep... You need it!

While in the middle of studying or writing assignments, sleep is usually the first thing that gets sacrificed in order to get everything done.

However, it is recommended that you get between 7-10 hours of sleep, as this will allow you to get sick less often, as well as managing your weight and reducing stress.
