3 people arrested in possession of €600,000 worth of cocaine

 

Three suspected members of an international drug trafficking ring were arrested in an operation that yielded around €600,000 worth of drugs believed to be cocaine.

In a statement, the police said that the arrests had followed weeks of investigation and surveillance of those involved.

Malta’s migrants protest against systemic discrimination

 

Hundreds of people took part in a protest in Valletta against systemic discrimination faced by members of Malta’s migrant community.

The protest was organised in the wake of an incident last week, which saw 32-year-old Gambian migrant Lamin Jaiteh discarded on a pavement by his employer after he fell two storeys at a construction site where he was working.

Reforms Minister Owen Bonnici has announced that cannabis smokers will be able to carry up to seven grams of cannabis and grow plants at home under the new proposed laws.

Pope’s visit to Malta postponed to 2022 reportedly over COVID-19 concerns and a potential incoming election

 

In September, MaltaToday had reported that Pope Francis would be visiting the island in 2021, with November reserved as a possible date; however, a report in the Times of Malta has confirmed that Malta and the Vatican have agreed to postpone the trip for the time being.

The main reason for the postponement was over concerns that there could be a possible COVID-19 spike during winter.

However, a second concern was the possibility of a November election.

25-year-old arrested after landing from Madrid with 900 grams of cocaine worth around €120,000

 

The police said that the woman, who is from the Dominican Republic, was arrested upon her arrival in Malta on a flight from Spain.

During a search, the police found the woman in possession of 90 capsules of the drug, amounting to around 900 grams with a street value of nearly €120,000.
