Our Top 5 list of Animated Movies

Animated movies have grown so much in recent history and the genre as a whole is no longer seen as a medium for just kids movies.

Already proven studios such as Disney and Studio Ghibli are still creating spectacular movies to this day, and new studios such as Pixar and Laika are also producing some of the best animated movies we’ve ever seen.

Here are the top 5 animated movies of all time, according to us at least 😅

Fantastic Mr. Fox

5

Fantastic Mr. Fox

IMDb: 7.9
Year of Release: 2009
Box Office: €39,279,745
Running time: 1 hour 27 minutes
Stars you may know: George Clooney, Meryl Streep & Bill Murray

From the brilliant mind of Wes Anderson, Fantastic Mr. Fox is his first animated movie and the first adaptation of Roald Dahl’s 1970 book.

Any Wes Anderson movie is a spectacle to watch just from how they are designed, but this is even more noticeable when watching this movie due to it being filmed completely in stop-motion.

4

Spider-Man into the Spider-Verse

IMDb: 8.4
Year of Release: 2018

Box Office: €318,364,815
Running time: 1 hour 57 minutes
Stars you may know: Shameik Moore, Jake Johnson & Hailee Steinfeld

Spider-Man into the Spider-Verse

There is a lot of debate among fans on which is the best Spider-Man movie and Into the Spider-Verse deservedly gets into that conversation.

Completely different from any previous Spider-Man movies before it, Into the Spider-Verse introduces the multiverse and also gets the audience to fall in love with around 5 different Spider-Men from different universes.

Spirited Away

3

Spirited Away

IMDb: 8.6
Year of Release: 2001
Box Office: €300,826,630
Running time: 2 hours 5 minutes
Stars you may know: Rumi Hiiragi, Miyu Irino & Mari Natsuki

Studio Ghibli is known for their animated classics, but if we had to pick one to put on this list it had to be Spirited Away.

Hayao Miyazaki’s masterpiece follows this young girl as she gets lost in a weird and fantastical world. Spirited Away is completely unlike any other animated movie seen before but still manages to deliver a thrilling and meaningful story about a kid learning how to live in a constantly changing world.

2

Toy Story 3

IMDb: 8.2
Year of Release: 2010

Box Office: €902,556,528
Running time: 1 hour 43 minutes
Stars you may know: Tom Hanks, Tim Allen & Michael Keaton

Toy Story 3

We had to pick at least one Pixar movie for this list and that movie had to be the third Toy Story movie.

The first two movies in this franchise did a great job in showcasing the bond between the toys and Andy, but Toy Story 3 builds on these relationships in a more mature way.  The movie manages to be a light hearted comedy, while also delivering on the emotional parts of the movie.

Lion King

1

Lion King

IMDb: 8.5
Year of Release: 1994

Box Office: €899,557,251
Running time: 1 hour 28 minutes
Stars you may know: Matthew Broderick, Jeremy Irons & James Earl Jones

Back in the 90s Disney were releasing countless animated hits that could have easily been on this list such as The Little Mermaid or Aladdin, but we had to pick The Lion King for the number one spot.

With a great soundtrack, beautiful animation that still holds up to this day and memorable and lovable characters, The Lion King has managed to stand the test of time and is our pick for the best animated movie of all time.
