Nintendo Switch’s new Pokémon TV app gives free access to Pokémon anime episodes

Pokemon Nintendo Switch

Were you an avid Pokémon fan growing up, or are you still a fan to this day?

The new Pokémon TV app on the Nintendo Switch will now allow users to watch several episodes of the anime for free, with the app also including numerous extra videos and plenty of other content.

While the app has been available for phones and smart TVs since 2019, its arrival on the Switch will bring its content to the platform that several Pokémon fans are currently on.

The Switch is already home to several Pokémon fans, through the release of Pokémon Sword and Shield, as well as the new MOBA game Pokémon Unite and also for the upcoming open-world game Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

Apart from seven full series of the anime, the app also comes with videos with tops on Pokémon games, competitive broadcasts of Pokémon games, and also content that is targeted to younger viewers with it having a dedicated ‘Junior’ category.

While the app does not have every single episode of every season of the anime, some of the earliest and latest seasons are fully available, as well as some of the films.

Some of the content is only available for a limited time, with this suggesting that the content might be in rotation to entice more viewers to tune in regularly.

While the Switch’s 720p display means that it is not the best device to watch media on, the Pokémon anime is not particularly known for high-resolution graphics, especially since it debuted in 1997 and was originally made for CRT screens and TVs that often had a 480p resolution.

The link between the Switch and smartphone usership follows a long-standing tradition from Pokémon that stems from Pokémon Go and also the new Pokémon Unite that launched on the Switch and is set to launch on smartphones soon, and so the relationship between the two platforms is definitely good news for Pokémon fans.

The Pokémon TV app is currently available to download for free on the Switch’s Nintendo eShop, while also being available on Google Play and Apple’s App Store.
