1

Plan your workload

The most important thing to do at the start of the year is to get an overall picture of the workload that you have, before starting to tackle it. Afterwards, make sure to construct a plan to see the best way to complete all of your tasks.

While it might be tempting to finish the simplest assignments and tasks first to get them over and done with, the ones that tend to take more time and effort might be the ones that you should start with in order to have an adequate amount of time to complete them.

Make sure to structuralise all of your tasks according to their importance and their deadline, in order to properly devote your energy without leaving any assignment or exam out.

2

Buy your books early

One of the major factors that many tend to dismiss is that of buying your coursebooks early.

With students often flocking to online and physical bookshops at the start of the semester, it is crucial that you try to get those books ahead of everyone else in order to make sure that you do not end up starting the year without the required material.

Whether you are buying the books at a physical store, online, or else purchasing an e-book, be sure to make a list of everything you need and to get them as soon as possible.

3

Create new approaches and think differently

Changing your approach to schoolwork is a great way to keep you interested in what you are doing.

For example, if you are tasked with doing an assignment that is similar to one that you have done in the past, make sure to think about it in a different way and change your approach.

Doing so will allow you to incorporate your previous way of thinking with plenty of new ideas, helping you develop a much more in-depth assignment, essay or project.

4

Set attainable goals

Throughout the year you will have tasks that require plenty of time, and others that do not.

It is vital to try and break down tasks that are longer than others, in order to make it seem as if it is a series of small, individual exercises.

If you are finding it difficult to write a 15-page assignment for example, make sure to divide it into different chapters so that you will have simpler and more attainable tasks.

Create a reliable social support network

Finding a group of people around you that want to help you succeed is a must. Whether it is through a group of classmates, a particular teacher or even your family, these are people that want to help you develop your skills and do what is best for you.

Apart from being there to listen to your ideas, share their own and even motivate you, they can also be of great help when you are unable to attend a particular class for some particular reason.

Given the uncertain times that we are living in due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this has never been as important as it is now.

6

Reward yourself

Whenever you complete a particular task or assignment, make sure to give yourself a quick reward.

This can be a quick walk, a snack, or even a break to watch an episode that you have been eagerly waiting to watch. The important thing is to make sure to not overdo it, and so once you have rewarded yourself appropriately, move on to the next task at hand.

There you are, do all of these well and you will definitely be fully prepared for all of the challenges that might come your way during the year.
